CRAIG MOOTHART

Craig (AKA Moot) has been coaching ever since he became the Boy's Varsity Head Coach at Trabuco Hills High School while also landing his 1st teaching job as a World History teacher. He stuck with the boys program for 9 years before making the switch over to the girls program at Trabuco Hills, 16 years ago. In 2015, Moot led his girl's Varsity team to a CIF Division 1A Championship and led them to the California State Final 4. Along the way, Moot earned several awards including, 2015 CIF Division 1A Coach of the Year and the Orange County Register's Girls Volleyball Coach of the Year. Not only has Moot coached in high school but has also coached at the club level. He had the privilege of coaching his son's team at Balboa Bay Volleyball club where the team won a gold medal at the Junior National Championships in the 14-Open division. He narrowly missed repeating the feat the following season, when a squad comprised largely of the same athletes took the 15-Open silver medal in 2013. Moot values that special time he was able to experience with his son. Moot loves to be part of the Prime Family and is always excited to work with our young athletes to prepare them for the next level.

"I love getting the chance to teach fundamentals to the kids knowing if you can get it right early it will stay with them a lifetime and hopefully bring them as much fun and incredible memories as the sport of volleyball has brought me. Secondly, I like to teach them how to work hard and learn to enjoy the process of competing. You win some and lose them but you're always gonna find success when you give it everything you got and do it with the right mindset and attitude. Lastly, I love seeing them smile, laugh and finding joy in this terrific sport."

Moot grew up in Irvine and graduated from Irvine High School in 1981. He was a 3 year starter for the boy's team and earned 1st Team All League, and County and CIF honors. After high school, Moot followed his desire of playing volleyball on the beach and spent 10 years with the AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals. After his playing days, Moot eventually returned to school and graduated from Long Beach State University in 1998 with a B.A. in History.

Moot is happily married to his wife Heather and together they have one son, Chase, who played VB and graduated from The Ohio State University. Together as a family they love to camp in the Sierras or Lake Tahoe and they try and hit Kaui every other year. Wherever they go, the only prerequisite is that there must be a sand court to play on. Moot loves Jesus and is grateful to God for all that he has, especially his wife Heather!

Moot has been coaching for 30 years and has been coaching at Prime for 5 years.
